Four factors that can influence your career success

Success, though relative, is one concept that is so much dealt with. The reason isn't farfetched: everybody wants to be successful in all their endeavours.
There are tons of materials and teachings on how to become successful. However, it’s still very easy to overlook some salient factors that truly influence how successful one becomes or otherwise, especially in their career. Yes, hard work, persistence, determination, skills and talent, are all among factors that determine success, but there are other important ones that are less pronounced.

Here are four of them:

1. Responsibility

Taking responsibility is one of the most important factors that determine whether you rise to the ranks in your career, and how fast.

Do you have the habit of not just taking on challenging tasks, but also taking charge? Do you have the stomach to take blame in good faith for your shortcomings and that of your team? If you do, then congrats, you have one very important ingredient of success. Let’s explore others.

2. Upbringing

While there are a lot of factors that add up to how successful you eventually become, or not, one important factor you have less control over (unfortunately) is your childhood – specifically your upbringing.

The habits you develop, the things you saw and heard, the things you learned, the relationships you had, and so on, as a child all influence how successful you become in your career, your relationships and every other aspect of your life.

For example, it’s been found that early mastery of math skills in childhood makes you better both at math and at reading, in the future.

If you’re a parent, one of the best contributions you can make to your child’s future – and ensure a successful career – is expose them early to learning materials. You can buy learning baby products for your toddler, for example, to get started.

3. Team-playing

Are you are great team player? Do you function better in a team than on your own, or would rather do your own thing so you can shine and take all the glory? I hope you’re not the latter, because career success would hardly ever be within your grasp if you’re not a good team player.

It takes a team to achieve organisational success, and any employee – or employer – that lacks the vital team-playing trait would either hold the organisation down or fall out alone.

4. Positive attitude

Attitude is everything. Sure you’ve heard that countless times, and it probably already sounds more than cliché. But... that doesn’t make it less true. Your attitude determines whether you succeed in life or not – not just career-wise.

When it comes to career, you surely need to have a positive attitude to climb up the ranks. Being calm and optimistic in the face of challenges, always wearing a smile and not being perpetually gloomy, handling failure and mistakes positively – and learning from them, and so on, are attitudes that will help you succeed in your career.

As you probably know, there are tons of other factors that can influence your career success, but if these four are covered, it’s just a matter of time, you’ll definitely reach the peak of your career.
